THE Y.M.C.A.

MR VIRGO’S MISSION. Mr J. J. Virgo, tho organising secro tary cf tho Y.M.0.A., addressed a largo meeting at tho Exchange Hall last night. Referring to tho formation of tho branch association in Wellington, ho said that tho gentlemen who had this matter in hand woro men of reputation, and ho was glad to say there was a prospect of its being established on strong permanent-lines. It was not a Christian Young Men’s Association. Anybody was eligible to belong to it; but in their transactions and in their games they would bo surrounded by * good Christian influence. They wanted tho social intercourse to bo of such character that there should never ho anything in it that tho members would look bade upon with sorrow. They wanted to have in this city of Wellington a robust typo of Christianity—manly men banded together with tho definite purpose of being as good as tboy could, and of, by tho graoo of God, influencing others to follow their example. The speaker preached an eloquent dissertation from tho words, “What is your life?” A strong choir added greatly to tho effectiveness of tho sorvico. Another meeting will bo bold at the Exchange Hall to-night. On Sund.av Mr Virgo will lecture at tho Opera House on “Playing tho Man.” Tho Y.M.C.A. members’ social catherinv announced for Thursday has been postponed’until next week.
