THE ALLEGED MURDER OF A CHINESE FIREMAN. (Received November 27, 10.12 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 27. At tho Criminal Court, in tho caso against Kerr, chief engineer, and Pengelly, second engineer of the steamer Ching-tu, charged with the murder of a Chinese member of the crew in. July last-, evidence similar to that at the initial trial was given by three Chinamen for the prosecution. The allegation was that the engineers had thrown a Chinese fireman overboard. Tho accused denied the charges. After some evidence had been taken, tho jury intimated that they did not wish to hear more, and desired to return a verdict of not guilty. In reply, the Judge said lie did no f ’ believe tlio evidence of tho three Chinese, and ho thereupon committed them for perjury. In discharging the* accused, ho said they left ilio Court without a stain on their character. He was satisfied that the evidence brought against them was a wicked perjury.
