WELLINGTON COLLEGE SPORTS

Tho annual athletic sports meeting ol Wellington Col lego was told yesterday. Though tho afternoon skyi was cloudeu, tho weather conditions wero distinctly favourable. Thero was a largo attondanco of jjarents and friends of the pupils at tho gathering, Sir Hubert Stout (of Victoria College Council). Messrs Brandon and Young (of tho College Hoard of Governors), and Dr Purdy being amongst those present. Jupp’s Land was j>rci-.cnt at tho mooting, and its music was most enjoyable. Tho most eventful race of tho whole programme was the Old Boys’ 100yds Handicap, an event in which 37 ex-pupils of the insti.t u 1 ion—callow youths and '’etoran greybeards—ran in one heat. V, atson was first to catch tho judge’s oyo The double of tho Open Hundred and tho Open Two Fifty was landed by Barrand, a young fellow who is likely (judged by present appearances) to become a sprinter of high ability. _ A woll-set-np midget, Ricliards tertius, showed excellent form and natural ability as a mile walker, and though he failed to achieve a prize, he is yet likely to wm many on future days. Parkinson primus Kin most consistently all day, and was returned winner of tlio Senior Championship Cnp (with a score of 15 points). Matthews (10J- points) was second, A- Halligan (9 points) third, and G. Goodbehero (7j points) fourth. Tho J uhior Aggregate Cup was won by Dawson (10 points). Seymour and Goodbehero sccundus being bracket ed for second place, with scores of 51 points. A fine run was put up in tho One Milo event by Bbmdoll, who conceded (from scratch) 180yds to Jeffcoat, and had all las men caught a qnartcr-of-a-milo from home. Tho time for the distance was -Imm 57scc, but it is worthy of mention in the Championship Mile Baco'bf tho College (an event that was run earlier in tho week), Blundell did the distance in 4min 50 4-5 sec.
