PBESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, November 4, The Vcntnor’s crew state that the steamer’s stern had risen out <sf the water when the order was given to man the boats on. Tuesday afternoon; as the steamer was then ready to sink. The other look-out man states that he saw land a little before the steamer struck, hut tjie light on the point was not visible, being low. . - Mr Bailie, second engineer, is of opinion that the steamer’s bottom was completely perforated, the tank top sides alone. keeping the steamer afloat long before she foundered. , KAIPARA. November 4.
The tug Sterling returned this morning, after three days’ search for the ' Ventnor’s missing boat. The Sterling went as far as North Cape. Nothing was seen of the boat or crew.
