PBESS ASSOCIATION. ' AUCKLAND. April 26. Admiral Beaumont visited the new Admiralty House recently and expressed his approval of the building and its appointments, but considered it too large for the purpose for which it is intended. The Admiral made a number of suggestions for. alterations. He said that the Ihrard could see that it was next to impossible for an Admiral to bring over his suite of servants from Sydney to occupy the house when he was only in port for a limited time. The mail steamer Yentura, which sailed for San Francisco via Pago Pago and Honolulu this afternoon took a record number of passengers from this port in addition to a very large through list from Sydney The passengers numbered 273 in the saloon and 85 in the steerage. Included in those who left from Auckland were Mr C. Hanson (manager of the Northern Steamship Company), Mr J. M. Morgan denied the drunkenness and alleged that the insubordination was provoked by a false charge of drunkenness. Much evidence was called. The Board’s decision will be forwarded to the Minister, Special to the “Times.” WANGANUI, April 26. A meeting of the committee of the Borough Council appointed to confer with the representatives of the Fire Brigade re the proposed extension of . plant was held last evening. It was decided to recommend the Council to authorise the brigade to purchase a steam fire engine and telescope ladder at a cost not exceeding .£IOOO, the money to be raised by loan in conjunction with the' waterworks loan. Captain Battle said that the plant could be procured forthwith, as a number of gentlemen, including the Mayor, had offered to guarantee the bank in order to obviate the delay which would otherwise be necessary in awaiting the raising of the money by loan.
