MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

TUESDAY, APRIL 15. (Before Mr W. R. Haselden, S.M.) One first offending drunkard was convicted. Peter Thill was fined ss, or in default 24 hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness. James Thomas, charged with failing to make provision for the future maintenance, of his unborn child, was remanded until the 21st inst. CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment for plaintiff was given in the following cases:—Scott and Co. v. Andrew Harass, £l6 14s, costs los. R. E. Howell v. H. E. Green, £7 8s 6d, costs £1 3s 6d. In the case Von Haast and Co. v. R. G. Warnes, the defendant was ordered to pay £ll 14s 3d forthwith. In the case E. H. Bosandar v. J. S. D’Silva, claim £l2, it was stated that the plaintiff entrusted the defendant, who is a jeweller, with a gold ring, weighing 196 grains, and a diamond valued at £6, and instructed him to set the diamond and two rubies in a new ring to bo manufactured from the old one, and arranged to pay for any extra gold which would be required for the work. The ring was duly manufactured and delivered to plaintiff, who had it weighed and found it only weighed 79 grains. Plaintiff alleged that D’Silva did not carry out his contract, wherefore ho claimed £l2. Defendant contended that ho had carried out the work as well as he could, and was prepared to return the gold which had been left over, or its value. Mr Jellicoe appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Tripp for the defendant. Judgment was reserved.
