Trrrß.n-cr.ASS CHAMPIONSHIP. The Vivian-Karori heat resulted in a victory for the latter team by 132 runs. Vivian batted several men short, and only scored 13 in the second innings. Hill and Tone capturing the wickets. The total scores were—Karori. 312, Vivian 210. Johnsonville defeated Phoenix by the narrow margin of 3 runs, and Midland A won by a largo margin against Wellington. The above contest was concluded on Saturday, and'as the following table shows, the Jolmsonvillo and Midland teams are bracketed for first place. A similar result was achieved by Johnsonville at the close, of the 96-97 season, when this team shared with Karori the leading position. The weather prevented the heats being played on the College ground and Basin Reserve on this particular Saturday, and this fact was considered by the ICarori members ample guarantee that no cricket would eventuate, although the fixtures were not officially postponed. If the Newtown Club’s contention is uj held, the committee should penalise all the remaining teams for not resuming play at the time prescribed for by championship rule 9.
