FOOTBALL.

The football grounds at Miramar presented a busy appearance on Saturday afternoon. All of the city clubs turned out, and indulged in earnest practice, The Oriental, Poneh© and M-elrns© mail were content with practising amongst themselves. Wellington and Old Boys indulged in a scratch game. When it is considered that a large number of the players donned the i ersey on Saturday for' the first time this season, the exhibition of football was very creditable. Old Boys have a very useful man in Buddie. His work, both in attack and defence, was exceedingly good. Dodd was conspicuous amongst the forwards, and was ewer to the fore in the attack. Tries were obtained for Old Boys by Buddie, Stout and Alexander. Wellington put a very strong team on the field. Jacobs, Brodio and Meredith, of the bocks, and Manson in the vanguard, were conspicuous. Tries were obtained by Brodie (2), Mclntyre, Manson and A. Wilson. „ ~ . The annual meeting of the Referees Association Ims been fixed for Wednesday night. The association is in need of recruits, and all old footballers are invited to attend the meeting, and be made members. Between twenty and thirty games have to be conducted by the association when the season is in full swing, so it is absolutely necessary to maintain a membership numerically strong.
