CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAYS.
Special to the “Times.” CHRISTCHURCH. November 13. A deadlock has arisen over the tram, way question. The city and the suburbs are at loggerheads and the conference of delegates last night adjourned "until the City Council comes to its senses,” as one gentleman put it. and without achieving anything of importance. It has been decided, rightly or wrongly, to terminate the Christchurch Tram Company’s agree, ment, and now. instead of co-operating to substitute their own service in its place, the local bodies are quarrelling about the initial step of management. Although there is scant time to make arrangements for their scheme, our local authorities have so little consideration for the public that they are spending precious months in squabbling amongst themselves over the question of control. The position now is that (the supporters of a paid elective Tramway Board have carried a resolution recommending the appointment of such a trust for a period of five years by a majo. rity of one vote.
