ATTEMPTED SUICIDE BY THE HUSBAND. (Received October 20, 5.1 S p.m.) SYDNEY, October 20. A sensational .sequel has occurred to a marriage celebrated in Auckland a few weeks ago. Yesterday a young man named Adriad Pike, charged on a warrant for wife desertion, issued by his wife, was ordered to pay fifteen shillings per week towards her support and find security totalling £B6, in default six months’ imprisonment. Pike declared that ho was unable to find security, and was removed to the ceils. Shortly afterwards he shot himself with a revolver, which he had somehow managed to secrete, inflicting a dangerous wound on tho head. According to tho story told by tho wife, the couple wore married at Auckland on September 10th. and left for Sydney by the Zcalandia. Soon after their arrival ir-Sydney tho man began to il’-treat i.cr, and left her. Being destitute, and believing that Pike intended to leave for South Africa, she took out a warrant. Amongst Pike’s effects a number of discharges from American coastal vessels were found.
