MELROSE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Melro.'e Borough Council met last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr Frost), Councillors Jorgensen, Crawford, Tleginbotham. Crump, Keene, Xicol, Brown Jennings and Fullford. Among the correspondence read was a petition from South Kilbirnio ratepayers asking that electric lamps be erected along Crawford road. The petition was referred to the Lighting Committee. The engineer reported the result of his re-inspection .of Karcpa street and its extension. Mr Fitohett had widened the formation to 15ft, and extended the metalling. He had intimated to th e Gas Company where lamps wore to be placed.—Tbs report was adopted. Councillor Jorgensen reported that there was a case of scarlet fever at Kilbiruie, and that no report of it had been sent in by the District Health Officer. Accounts amounting to £76 15s lid wore passed for payment. The Council then went into committee to consider th e re-organisation of the staff. The following is tlfe resolution arrived at in committee, “ That a committee consisting of Councillors Keene, Hcginbotham, Fullford and the Mayor he appointed to wait upon the Karori and Onslow Boroughs, also th e Seatoun Road Board, with a view to appointing a qualified engineer in conjunction with Melrose Borough.” Councillor Jennings’s motion that the motion passed re the formation of Shannon street, Island Bay, be rescinded, was lost on a division by five votes to three.
