THE ROYAL TOUR
ZEALANDIA’S FAREWELL. Ye Princes of Blue, and Princesses true. We see you but once and again; Yet in these Southern lands, our fealty firm stands. And thus it will ever remain. Ye come o’er the sea from the isles of the free. . . And we reck not our joy.to restrain; We greet you with gladness, but the parting means sadness, Like life’s fleeting pleasures and pain. Empire is ours, and among the leagued Powers None, none shall our heritage ban, But we’ll fight to be free, both on land and by sea, With Zealandia leading the van. Ye have seen our fair isles, ’neath Nature’s sweet smiles, The first of the world-circling belt. And beheld our brave sons, who stood staunch to their guns. On the treach’rous South African veldt. In faith to our King, our loyal heart* cling Around ye, illustrious twain, So, as patriots true, we now bid you adieu. But hope we shall see yon again. JOHN YOUNG. Wellington, 28th June, 1901.
