FRIENDLY SOCIETY BANQUET.

Tho visiting delegates to the Oddfellows’ Conference were entertained by tlio Wellington District Committee at Godher’s Rooms last evening. I’rovin cial U.M. JJro. G. Head occupied the chair, and Deputy P.G.M. lire. A. Perrin tho vice-chair. Represent!!lives of tho various kindred societies were guests of the# committee. The toasts of ‘‘The King and Royal Family” and “'lm: Governor and Parliament" were proposed, and received with musical honours. ‘‘The Manchester Unity and Hoard of Directors” was proposed by Bro J. Ker_ shaw, P.C.H., and responded to by Bro. G. Leslie, 1’.1’.G.M., who congratulated the delegates on their decision to begin tho new century by establishing a Alovablo Committee for New Zealand. “Tho Manchester Unity of Now Zealand” was proposed by I’.l’.G.M. f i lioinas, of Nelson, and replied to by Bro. J. McLeod, I’.C.S., of Auckland, who thought that the establishment of a central body would have the eflect of largely increasing the membership of tlio order. “the Wellington District and Officers was proposed by Bro. J. B. Feildcr, I’.C.S., of Napier, who expressed his pleasure at liuding the distrieb still uuikiug good progress- Bro, A. I’erriu, D. I’.G.M., replied on behalf of tho district. . “Visiting Delegates and their Districts” was proposed by Bro. D.i'. Lousin' L’.l’.G.M., who was of opinion that although a number of districts had not yet signified their approval of the move. liuint, they would before long throw in their lob with the majority. Tho toast was responded to by Bro. J. Paterson, of AshburtonBro. Marshall. P.P.G.M., of Ashley district, proposed hlie toast of “Kindred Societies.’’ The toast was replied to by Bros. Wills (Oddfellows), Wuiteford (Forc.Hcrs) and Grant (Druids), all of whom wished the governing body every “Success to the Wellington Friendly Societies’ Council” was proposed by Bro J. Smith, jun., 1’.P.0.M., who referred to the efforts made by thoA'Olincil to secure amendments to tho Fricnd_ ly Societies Act and to tho successful establishment by tlio council of a dispensary for the City of Wellington. Bro. VV. Guise, IM’.G.AL, replied on behalf of tho council. During the evening songs were contributed by Bros. J. Avery, J. Kershaw, E. D. Dunne, A. Imm, J. L. Eeildor and T. S. Powell. Bro. Evcntt gave a recitation. The accompaniments to thd songs were played by Bro. V\. McLaughlin. , , , , a - " Tho singing of “Auld Lang Sync terminated a very pleasant evening.
