STANTON OPERA COMPANY. TIIO second performance by tbc Stanton Opera Company was given .at the Opera House last night, when "baullnsha was repeated. Both the music incidental to the piece aud that which was introduced was well sung, by soloists and chorus alike, prom the efforts of the comedians the audience derived much amusement. Miss Josephine Stanton, who is an artist possessed of a. charming method, was^ encored for her coon songs, of which "Kentucky Babe,” with its hummed and whistled refrain, ami its quaint action, waa the more popular. Mr Geo. Kunkel, whoso parody songs were extremely laughable, was assisted by Mr Charles Van Dyne in some novel fun-making. In the humorous side of the niece Miss Clara Wisdom also took no small part. For their acting and singing Miss Bertha Nilsson and Messrs Henry Hallam. Jean do Lacey and Geo. Lyding were applauded. "Said Pasha" will he repeated to-night. There will bo a matinee performance of the opera to-morrow afternoon, and in the evening "Fra Diavolo" will bo produced. On Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday the company will appear in "Dorcas," a •musical comedy V,‘y Henry and Edward Paul ton. The scenes and incidents of this piece are all distinctly English. NEWBUKY-3P ADA COMPANY. On Sunday evening at tlie Opera House the above company will make their last appearance in Wellington. Madame Spada will ring ‘‘With Verdure Clad,” from "The Creation,” "Come Unto Me,” and fiounnd’:i "Are Maria” and will join Mr Newbury in the duet from Mendelssohn’s “Hymn’of Praise.” The popular tenor will introduce for the first time in Wellington Iho “Dons Mens,” from Dubois’s "Seven Last Words,” "Waft Her Angels,” and “Comfort jn.Mo*nd "Every Valley.’’ from "The Messiah.” Mr Arthur Hahn, Air Harry Smith and others will assist. The full programme will appear in tomorrow’s issue. The Empire Vaudeville company attracted a gooil house to the Choral Hall last night, when Miss Ivy Fulton and Miss Failing, Messrs .Tack Lyndon, Blntch Jones and Gus Neville all mot with good receptions. To-morrow night Faust and Wnlhalla will appear for the first time here. Tlie fine company of entertainers at present engaged at the Theatre Royal attracted another hired audience to that popular house last night. The patrons of the Gaiety Company are quick to recognise genuine talent, ami Miss Irene Franklin mav now be regarded ns an established favourite, sharing that honour with the Havtors. To-night Mr Martin Hagan and Miss Lucy Frazer will appear. The wevklv meeting of the Wesleyan Literary and Debating Society was held in the roeietv’s lecture hall last evening. The Dev W. C. Oliver was in the chair. A debate “Are Trades Unions Beneficial to the Working Classes?’’ took place. Mr R IT. Wedde leading in the affirmative ami Mr IT. Ilnrrell taking the negative. After a snivited discussion the members derided in favour of tbc unions. Next Thursday evening Air Thos. Pringle will deliver a lecture on "A Trip to Japan.”
