REPREHENSIBLE ADVERTISING. I am writing (says Mr D. E. J* draw attention to a very reprehensible class of advertisement which appears lately to have ■'found vogue in this city, viz., that of cardboard imitations of three-penny pieces. In some cases they'have actually passed as real by unsuspecting tradespeople; in others, the receptbr'very wisely destroyed them. In on® instance, a child was actually sent out ’to make a purchase with one of the spurious coins, and the fraud was only discovered at‘the last mo_ raent. lam absolutely ignorant of law, but there is, I believe, “a clause in the English code which enacts that any counterfeit presentment of her Majesty's "head shall come under the denomination of coining, and be punishable *as such- If you will insert this letter for the protection of the -public I shall be obliged, as, although it is a matter for the police to take up, yet a few ‘words like this in a widely-read and universally respected journal like yours, sir, would be of more avail than the united efforts of the whole of the constabulary. GROWTH OF THE EMPIRE. Referring to tbe statement in the "Times" of Monday containing statistic# showing the marvellous growth of the British Empire, I would ask (writee H.J.P.) is there not a cause? .The present condition of England and her numerous colonies, a veritable "company of nations," her powerful navies and invincible armies, her immense wealth, Christian influence, and controlling power, being "chief of the nations,’’ are surely more than coincidences with the promises given by God to Abraham to be fulfilled in Isaac's descendants. But the distinction between the kingdom of Israel (ths ten tribes) and the kingdom of Judah (the two tribes) must be clearly borne in mind, for while Judah ws to be scattered but known, Israel was to be banished,and utterly lost, having another name and an. other language, but ultimately in the fulness of time to he found and identified. 1 The ancestors of the British, the Kimmsrians Kelts, Sakai, Belgie or Kymry, Goths, Angles, Jutes, Saxons, and other tribes can be traced in their wandering# from Media, where Israel was finally lost, through Europe to the British Isles (northwest from Palestine) and her late Majesty Queen Victoria possessed a chart showing her lineal descent from the Royal house of King David, while the coronation stone in Westminster Abbey is claimed t* be the identical "Jacob's Pillow/' America being a contemporary nation of British origin, would represent Manasseh, who was to become "a great people." Identifications are too numerous to mention here but the subject will well repay a careful study of the prophetical Scriptures.
