VOLUNTEERS
The Highland Rifles? team for the New Zealand Rifle Association meeting at Wanganui has fired two out of the three matches necessary to decide which member of the team shall have the privilege at the meeting which attaches to winning the association’s bronze medal presented to each competing company. Private Turner now leads Private Headby one point, and Private Head is eight points in advance of Sergeant Lacey. The scores made in the two competitions were as follows: —Private Turner, 41 and 49; Private Head, 45 and 43; Colour-Sergeant Lacey, 39 hnd 43. The following promotions in the Petone Navals are announced:—P.O. Parrant to be senior first-class P,0.; sec-cnd-class Petty-Officers Findlay and Cruickshank to first-class; Acting-P.0.-Hickson and Leading-Gunners Johnston' and Henderson to be second-class P.O.’s; and Gunners Fraser and Gold-: ing to be leading gunners. The Wellington Rifle Battalion is to parade to-morrow night.
