FIRES
Our Carterton correspondent writes : —On Wednesday morning at . seven o’clock a five-roomed cottage, situated on the Hinau Gully, road, Dclvedcr , and owned and occupied o Gull ' A rson, a dairy farmer, was deetroyeo fire AH’ the family, with the exception of the wife and two newly-born were out milking. On seeing the smoko issuing from the dwelling the husband rushed into the house, and just managed to save Mrs Gunderson and the chiliiren No thing in the way of chattels was saved, and the furniture, being uninsured, this struggling farmer, with twelve of a family, has suffered a severe loss. The building was insured in the New Zealand office for £75. The fire is supposed to have been caused through the wind blowing some sparks from the open fireplace on bo inflammable material.
