PEESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, June 21. A charge of manslaughter against Constable Finnerty in connection with the death of Boonstra, was partly heard at the Police Court to-day. This is the fatality the Coroner’s inquest on which exonerated Fiunerty. The Education Board agreed to-day to join with tne North Canterbury Board in asking the Government to make the inspection of private schools compulsory. The Board also agreed to appoint a . drill instructor for the dis. trict. At a meeting of sportsmen to-day the following resolutions were canned unanimously : --(1) That in the opinion of this meeting it is desirable there should be one unijfonn date within the North Island for the taking of both native and ihiporteu game, and that this date should be fixed by Act of Parliament; (2) that the date lor the opening of the uniform season bo the Ist of May. At the Police Court to-day the charge of theft against H. S. Valentine, of Dunedin, was withdrawn, no evidence being offered. WANGANUI. June 22. Miss Burnett, daughter of a very old settler, has signified her intention to present the town with a peal of and a clock, of the value of £7OO, as a memento of the pence celebrations, and in appreciation or the part, played by Wanganui in assisting the Ihnpirc. Hokitika, June 22. Mr C. A. Barton, Clerk of the Court, who has been removed to Wanganui, was accorded a hearty send-off last evening at a gathering in the Town Hall. He was presented with an illuminated address and purse of sovereigns.

DUNEDIN, June 22. * On the Conciliation Board meeting to-day it was reported that two or three millers decline-, to sign the agreement in the millers’ dispute and the matter was referred to the Arbitration Court, as also was the case of the Allandale coal miners’ dispute. The Arbitration Court met to-day to hear tho carpenters’ dispute. The main demand was for an increase of wages from Is Sd an hour to Is 4ld. Neither side called evidence. After hearing the representatives of both sides the president intimated that a decision would be given on another day.
