MELROSE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
1 At -fcliie 'monthly meeting of the Mel‘rose Borough Council last night there jwere present:—The Mayor (Mr G. Frost), and Councillors Clark, Shepherd, Walter, Newall, Keene, Fullford, Key, Foster and Highet. ; A deputation of Island Bay ratepayers waited op, the Council and urged it to approach the City Council with a view to getting.,the .level., of Adelaide road South ‘ reduced so as to make it available for a tramway to Island Bay. The Council resolved that a deputation consisting of the Mayor and Councillors Keene, Newall, Foster and Walter, in conjunction with the Island Bay approach the City Council on the subject at its next meeting. 'fhe rgugerjlMr Greeks) was appointed to assist’the Town. Clerk in the inspection- liehhas •to . carry out for plagueprevention/ purposes. Mr Perrin, of Kilbirnie, wrote asking that Roderigo road be metalled and improved!. 7 jTlfo matter was left in the hands of th& Engineer. •Mr WlSilnolair applied for permission to. forth ■' n! right Or way ,on, sections* 36 and’37; Kilbirnie.- The application was granted, subject to the right-of-way being; formed /the full width of 40ft, and metalled for a width of 20ft in the centre, with a footpath on each side. The rcppyt. of the Public Works Committee, lyliich has already been published, was adopted! The r Streets Committee was authorised to’ expend a. sum. not exceeding £2o' in preparing a report on the subject of necessary works to the streets in the borough. Accounts • amounting to £l5O 15s 4d were parsed for payment. Councillor Highet moved that the' City Council be asked to co-operate with the Melrose Borough Council in regulating'the width of the tyres of vehicles. The motion lapsed for want of a seconder.
