Major Coleman, who has been suffering from an attack of broncnitis, is announced to be convalescent. Master A/Stow, the coxwain who steered the champions at Dunedin in 1898 and at Auckland in 1899, lias beeA presented by the Picton Rowing Club with a gold medal in the shape or a rudder. The late Mr George Beaven,- of Wanganui, whose remains were interred on Saturday afternoon, has since early in the sixties taken the liveliest interest in' the welfare and advancement of Wanganui. In the early days he was an active member of the Town Board, of which he was; chairman', arid/was nkssp dnsio.o for many- inaugural works in the Borough. He was' elected a member of the To-.vn Board in 1864, was appointed chairman in 1868, and continued in office! till 1870, thus having served six years.
