Kenny, S.M., in convicting two porters named Nolan and Bell for a breach of the Wellington Harbour Board by-law 160, which provides that no porter shall, on the arrival of any vessel, crowd round or obstruct the gangway thereon, but shall stand at least six feet distant therefrom until engaged, and shall be silent and orderly in his behaviour, has been dismissed by the Chief Justice, who holds that the by-law is not an unreasonable one. His Honor allowed costs to £6 6s. Mr E. G. Jellicoe .was for the appellants and Mr C. H. lizard for the Board.

The bopk, winch is profusely illustrated with beautiful views and instinctive maps, gives a derailed description of the different ports and islands called at by the A.U.S.N. ahd British India and other companies -steamers, in addition to which the Customs tariff bn all goods imported into Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, ‘Western Australia, Tasmania, Now Zealand and Fiji is clearly set forth . The hhndbook teems with information affiectjijig the trade of the colonies, and is a [highly creditable publication.
