GENERAL ROGET ON THE MOVE. PARIS, Monday. General Roget, who-aner the demonstration at President Faure’s funeral (when M. Deroulede attempted to induce him to head a military revolution), was transferred from Paris to the command at Orleans, will shortly be further transferred to Belfort. JAMAICA AND CANADA. LONDON, Monday. The Right Hon Joseph, Chamberlain, Secretary of State for the Colonies, is taking action for the promotion of closer commercial relations between Jamaica and Canada. An important discovery of high-grade oxidised ore is reported to have been made in the Great Boulder Perseverance gold mine. CHINESE RAIDERS. SHANGHAI, Sunday. A number of Chinese made a raid on the German railway works near Kiaochau, the German port on the Chinese coast. A punitive expedition has been sent out against the raiders. PORT ARTHUR IMPROVEMENTS. ST. PETERSBURG, Monday. Russia is devoting 11,000,000 roubles to dredging and the construction of moles at Port Arthur. WAR IN THE PHILIPPINES. WASHINGTON, Monday. Mr Russell A. Alger, United States Secretary of War, declares that General Otis, who is now operating with American farces in the Philippines, is not to be reinforced till October.
