CHRISTCHURCH HOSPITAL BOARD.

CHAIRMAN AND SURGEON AT VARIANCE. THE FORMER ASKED TO RESIGN. PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. A special meeting of the Hospital Board was held to-day to consider a letter from the surgeon complaining of the board’s action in deciding to discontinue the payment to him of the salary accruing to the position of assistant-surgeon, while that office was vacant, and also of the "system of espionage and tyranny,” of which, he said, he had been the victim at the hands of the chairman. Mr C. M. Gray, the" chairman, made a statement in reply to the letter, and the doctor also replied to Mr Gray’s statements. After a discussion the board expressed itself as satisfied with the surgeon’s explanation and asked the chairman to resign.
