The Hon A. J. Cadman, Minister of Mines, who has been on a visit .to the northern mining district, is now m better health. Mr A. Siegfried, son of the exMinister of for France, Jut Wellington yesterday for the bouth by the Eotomahana. During last week lie had several interviews with high officials and loading business men ot the city, and has visited also several factories He was introduced yesterday by the French Consul, Count de Courts, to the Premier. Mr Siegfried talks very highly of New Zealand, and considers it°as one of the 'most interesting colonies in the world. On his return from Dunedin and Christchurch Mr Siegfneu will spend a few days more in Wellington,'before leaving for Sydney. The students of the Dunedin School of Art last week made a presentation to the assistant master, Mr David; Edward Hutton, who is leaving Dunedin to assume the directorship of the Wanganui Technical School. The presentation which took the form of an illuminated address, was made by Dr Brown, Chairman of the Education Board, who, during the course of his remarks, said that the spontaneity and enthusiasm which attended the initiation and carrying out of the. presentation were significant ot the heartiest goodwill on the part of the students to their late teacher. Mr Hutton returned thanks for the gift or the students, and said that in ms new position he would endeavour to do credit to Otago, and to the school in which he had received his art education.
