HOCKEY.
The United Hockey Club opened the sea-; son on its ground at Miramar on Satur-_ day, when there was a good muster oil members. Sides were chosen by Messrs: Pearson and Hickson, and after an enjoyable game the latter’s side won by fourgoals to three. Devenish (two Hickson and Barnett (one each) wore tnc,’ scorers for the winners. For Pearson’s side, Smythy, Maclean, and Ruddock, scored a goal each. Considering that a! large number of the players had never: played the game before, the form shown’ was very promising. Ashbolt, at backplayed a particularly safe game, and of the others, Weybourne, Richardson, Mac-, lean and Smythe were prominent. ■ ’
