Batten, by members; of the Royal Rangitikei Rifles, as a; wedding gift.” Captain Batten, who was much taken by surprise, suitably s responded! , " The prize medals granted" by the Government for competition by members of the volunteer forces have been’ won by the following:-—Gold medal for; best shot in each island—Nortji Island ;; Private B. Love, Wellington" Guards, 101 points; South Island: Private R., M.; Harding, Blenheim City Rifles, 96 points. Gold and silver medal for second best shot in each island—-North Island : Cor-; poral J. J. Raynes, Waikato Mounted Rifles, 95 points.; South Island: Ser- 1 geant W. S. Milner, H Battery, 95 points. Silver medal for best shot ineach district—Corporal _B. P. Avery,; Ohinemuri Rifles, 93 points;- Weliing-i ton: Sergeant O. A. Watkins, Wa : roa Mounted Rifles, 95 points; Nelson;; Gunner H. W. Oakley, H Battery, 93 points ; Canterbury : Sergeant W. Wcr-; sley, Timaru Rifles, 94 points;. North; Otago: Private W. Whyte,' Oamaruj ‘Fraser, Kaitangata Rifles, 87 points; J Southland: Sergeant A. R. MiLs, In-j vercavgiil City Guards. The Nursery Teams Match, which was : concluded on Saturday, was won by the Post and Telegraph Rifles. The scores were:—Post and Telegraph, 439; Zoalandia Rifles, 429; Cycle Coras, 426; Civil Service. 408; College Rifles, 397; Kelbume Rifles, 289.
