PLUMBERS’ UNION PICNIC.
The third ■ animal picnic : of/the Plumbers’ Union took place, on baturdav. The popular screw steamer Duchess was chartered for the occasion by the union. ■ Quite a . thousand people were nrosent. : The band of the Napolitani Students contributed in no small degree to the enjoyment' of the picnickers, many of whom indulged in dancing in the pavilion. The following is a list of the officials appointed to superintend a generous programme 01 sports ; —Referee, Mr J. Alexander ; judges, Messrs R. Barry, W. Msick, J. Banks J: Arnold ; handicappcrs,. Messrs D Barr and : W. Brett;, a committee of twenty members' of which the executive consisted of Mr D. Barr (chairman) and Messrs H. W. Davies and W. Mdhgan (joint secretaries). The results, oj: the races were as follow : 1 _ ApprenfticeiV Handicap, 220yds.—h . Jansen, scr, 1; W. McMallcy Byds, 2 Journeymen’s Handicap', 220yds.—ts. Lawrence, 6yds, 1; .H. Wakeman, 10yds, 2. , . , „ . , , [This event was won by ll*. Davies, but a protest was 1 ■ lodged on the grounds that he was not a plumber and was running under an assumed name/. Protest was upheld, and race awarded to S. Lawrence.! ... Single Women’s Race, 100yds.—Miss Gilchrist, syds, 1; Miss * Galloway, 11yds, 2. ,■ Front Shops Hands Race, 120yds.— S. Colwell, 6yds, 1; T. Reddings, Byds, 2. _ Journeymen’s Bicycle ; Handicap, two miles.—F. Ballinger, 350yds,- 1; D. Thompson, 80yds, 2. , Married Women’s Race, 75yds.—Mrs Trask, 4yds, 1; Mrs Holmes, 10yds, 2.
