HANDSOME AMERICAN SUBSCRIPTIONS. 1-HESS ASSOCIATION. London, December 1. Colonel J. E. Ciourand, who acted as aide-de-camp to ponp ral Sherman in tho \ Araorican Civil !>aV. and several times distinguished himself by deeds of daring, has subscribed £IOOO, and Mr W. Astor £OOOO to the fund for the establishment of a Gordon Memorial College at Khartoum. , .. Lord Kitchener attended a meeting at tho Mansion House, and also visited the Stock Exchange. At both places he was accorded ovations, and large subscriptions to tho fund were promised.

Tho Rev W. C. Waters, M.A., has arranged for a special service of a short and bright character, to bo held at St. Peter s Church on Wednesday evening next at 8 o’clock. Tho offertory is to bo given to tho fund now being raised at Home under tho patronage of Her Majesty the Queen for the .College to be erected at Khartoum to tho memory of tho late General Gordon. Mr Waters has invited those Volunteer corps with which ho is connected as honorary chaplain to bo present on the occasion, and they ha.ve kindly promised to attend. Tho service has tho full sanction and approval of Colonel Stuart Newall, in command of the Wellington district, and it is hoped that tho general public will show their .approval!, by a numerous attendance, and that the offertory will bo worthy of so excellent an object.
