TWO NEWSPAPER CANDIDATES. By Telegraph.—Pres Association. Clyde, October 19. Mr Robert Gilkison, of Clyde, is definitely out for Tuapeka as an Independent Liberal. Special to the "Times.” 1 awrenoe, October 19. In response to the strong representations of tho Otago Miners’ Confederation, Mr Henry Symes, proprietor of tho " Alexandra Herald,” has consented to stand for the Tuapeka seat, and has definitely announced himself. Should he persist it will cause a fatal split in the Liberal vote, as he is certain to poll heavily in the upper end of the electorate.

On the motion of the Premier, the Speaker was yesterday directed to issue a writ for the Tuapeka election. The election is to take place on Wednesday, November 2nd.
