Press Association • A NAPlfia PUBLICAN FINED. Napier, May 23. To-day Gerald Charles Eagar, licensee o p the Star Hotel, was fined £5, and had his license endorsed, for selling liquor after hours. Four men obtained drinks on the representation that they had in the afternoon taken beds in the house. A similar charge against Frederick Hill, of the Provincial Hotel, fell through, as the evidence was most conflicting. SUICIDE OF A SWAGGER. Napier, May 23.
A swagger named Brown, a foreigner, with naturalisation papers, cut his throat at Elborne’s Station, Puketapu, where he had been put up for the night. A verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was returned at the inquest.
FIRE AT CHEVIOT. Christchurch, May 23. A fire occurred at Mr Domett’s property, Cheviot, on Saturday, which destroyed the woolshed aud its contents, belonging to Mr John Pusohel. There was an insurance of £350 in the Alliance office, aud £l7 10s (?) in the Sun. Dunedin, May 23. Wm. Simmons was to-day committed for trial on a charge of throwing boiling water over Mrs Scott, a woman with whom he had been living.
