THE NATIVES AND THE DOG TAX.

HONE TOIA COMMITTED FOE TRIAL. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Auckland, May 23. This morning Hone Toia and the other Maori prisoners were committed for trial on all the charges. Mr Earl, for the defence, argued that the prisoners were not guilty of treasonous conduct or attempting to levy war on the Queen. They simply made an armed demonstration, and nothing more serious could be charged against them than unlawful assembly. The Magistrate held that there was sufficient evidence of treasonous intent.
