The Blackball steamer Hoskoth left Timaru for tfio Bluff on Tuesday morning with 657 bales of wool for transhipment Home per Wairaato. Mr Johu Anstad, one of the purchasers of tbo oil schooner Savaii, informs ns that tbo cable received which stated that sho had sailed (or Wellington is Incorrect. Mr Anstad loft for Sydney last evening by the Tarawara to assist in bringing the little vessel across. Captain Johnston is in command The Savaii is intended for trawling purposes at Napier. Tbo Italian ship Concordia oommenoad taking in ballast yesterday in anticipation of her voyage to Sydney. Captain Celle expects to leave about this day week. Included in the Rofioiti’a cargo was a tranship* ment of 100 oases of kerosene ex shin Concordia. Tenders are being called by the Government for a steam service between Taupo and Tokaanu on Lake Taupo. The steamer is to be of from 25 to 39 toes burden, and capable of maintaining a speed of from 10 to 12 knots an hour. Another condition is

that sho is to carry not Isss than 50 passengers, and to be equipped to the satisfaction of the Postmaster* General. The second officer, Mr Sinclair, has been acting temporarily as mate. Mr Hake, chief officer of the Tarawera, has Ob* tained a month’s holiday. His duties have been assumed by Mr Graham, Into of the Mmayourl. Mr Denny, late purser of the Taviani, was a pas* eongor for Sydney by the Tarawera yesterday, having received orders to proceed to Tasmania to assume a pursersbip on one of the Company’s steamers on that coast.

The Kawatiri’s shaft, which has been repaired by Messrs W. Cubic and Co., was placed in position yesterday, and the steamer loaves lor Westport to* day.

The Tarawera, from Dunedin and Lyttelton, brought 180 tons of cargo (or Wellington. Sho had a very largo cargo for through ports (about 050 tons), 500 tons being for Auckland. The R M.S. Gothic is to sail from Lyttelton for Loudon immediately on arrival there of the Roto* mahaaa. which leaves Wellington at 5 p.m. on May 25 tb.

The Aorere brought SO oaska tallow from Patou. She returns to-day. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s fine steamship Kaikoura arrived from London, via Tenoriffe, Capetown, and Hobart between 7 and 8 a.m. yesterday, and after being inspected by Dr James (Health Officer) was berthed at the outer tee of the Queen’s Wharf. The following report of the voyage is kindly furnished by the second officer, Air A. Forbes :—Tho steamer left Plymouth at 180 p.m. on 2nd April, and experienced light favourable winds avid fine weather to Tenerifle, where she arrived at 7-30 a-m. on 7th. After embaming passengers, mails and replenishing the coal bunkers, left again at 8 p.m. on the same day for Capetown. Ex* Seriencad light winds and fine weather to the Equator, which was crossed in longitude 9deg W. on Uth: from thence encountered strong SE. trades, with heavy head sea, until arrived at Table Bay at 6 a-m. on 2lth. Embarked mails and passengers and sadod same day, meeting with fine weather across the Southern Ocean ; passed Maat* suyker Light at 9.40 p m. on IStb May, and from thence to Hobart thick hazy weather was on ooutered, which necessitated the ship anchoring for three or four bous in the Derwent, arriving along* side Dunn street Pier at 10 a.m. on Uth. Coaled, discharged about 209 tons cargo and sailed at i p.oa, for Wellington and arrived as above. Mr Silha (who was on tho Mataura when she was wrecked in the Straits of Magellan) is now chief officer. In place of Mr Parsons, who has been transferred to tho Tokoa; Mr A. Forbes (late second officer of the Rimutaka) succeeds Mr Cornwall as second on tho Kaikoura; and Messrs Bluett and Vipan are the third and fourth officers respectively. Mr Sutherland (lata of the Mataura) is chief engineer, and Mr Evans (tor* marly of the Otarama) is second. The Kaikoura is to sail for Lyttelton on Saturday, for which port she has part cargo, bat returns to Wellington, finally leaving for London on the 9th pro*.
