THE MARTINI-ENFIELD.

TO THE EDITOB, Sib, —l notice an error in yonr Saturday’s leader, which it may be as well to correct. You speak of the Maitini-Enfield rifle as carrying a much heavier bullet than the LeeMetford. Well, this is an error. The first issue of the magazine rifle in England was called the Lee-Metford, viz.. Lee-breech action and Metford-barrel; then came Speed’s improvements, and now the rifling has been altered for cordite, and the weapon is known as the Lee-Enfleld. The only difference in the Martini-Enfield is that instead of the Lee-breech action it has the ordinary Martini-block, the barrel, rifling and cartridge with bullet weighing 215 grains and 303 - in calibre being the same in both arms.—l am, &c., P. Whitley.
