Press Association. Blenheim, January 11. A lad named Ewart, who was thrown from his horse, had an arm broken. A girl named Fishor fell over a steep bank at Havelock on Sunday afternoon and had her collarbone broken and thigh fractured. Miss Douslin has been appointed head mistress of the girls' school. Auckland, January 11. George Huddleston, clerk and caretaker at the Mount Eden magazine, admitted at the Police Court to-day the theft of £222, the property of the Queen, but was informed that the plea of guilty could not be admitted in that Court. He. was remanded until the 19th, bail being fixed at .£3OO. Huddleston was. once sergeantmajor in Wellington depdt. New Plymouth, January 11. During the four weeks ended January Bth, the butter shipped at the breakwater totalled over 400 tons and the cheese about 70 tons. The dry weather is beginning to affect the supplies. Christchurch, January 11. Margaret Ryder, charged with bigamy, was committed for trial. She was married in Dunedin in 1892 and again in Little Akaloa in 1897. When arrested she stated that her husband had left her for five years, and she thought she could marry again. At the Magistrate’s Court this morning the conductors of the Stanmoro Band and the committees of the Fire Brigade and the Canterbury Rowing Club art unions were charged under section of the Gaming and Lotteries Act with distributing prizes by a method of chance. They were each ordered to pay £3 3s costs of the prosecution, but no fine.
