CITY COUNCIL.
PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE. A meeting cf the Public Works Committee of the Wellington City Council was held at the Council Chambers last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr J. E. Blair), Councillors Anderson, Lingard, Willeston, Lindsay, Haroourt, Devine, Fraser, McGill, Smith and Higgiubottom. The Mayor and the Councillors for the ward were appointed a committee to inspect and report on the breastwork in front of Mr W. Chalmers’ property in Parliament street. It was decided not to recommend a refund of ill 12s charged to Mr A. Wilson for asphalting in Constable street. Mr E. M. Simpson attended with reference to the boundary line between the Upland Estate and the Town Belt, it was decided to recommend that the Council agree to the survey as set' out in the plan laid on the table. It was decided to recommend that the proposed agreement with the Harbour Board for the exchange of endowments, and the Board’s request that the Council should contribute to the first cost of a floating steam fire engine, ha referred to a committee for consideration aod report. It was announced that Messrs Palliser and Jones had for the present decided not to take any further steps in connection with their request for permission to deposit spoil on the harbour aide of the Oriental Bay road. In regard to a letter from Messrs Brandon and Hialop with reference to a right-of-way. Chaw’s Lane, it was decided to recommend the Council to reply that a plan must be supplied. It was decided to recommend that Mrs Drake’s request with reference to a right-of-way. Austin street, be granted on condition that only three houses be erected. In regard to Mr E. H. B®ere’s letter with reference to right-of-way, Britomarte street, it was decided to recommend that it be referred to the Reserves Committee.
It was to recommend that the Elizabeth Street Extension Committee report on Mr X. W. Young’s letter with reference to a right-of-way, Brougham street.
The necessary plan had now been sent in, and it was decided to recommend that the application of the Hospital Trustees for right-of-way, Hevans street, be granted.
It was decided to recommend that the Council lay a sewer at right- of - way, Hevans street, as requested by the Hospital Trustees, and charge the Hospital with the cost. In regard to a letter from Messrs B. Smith and Co., asking for formation at Daniel street, it was decided to recommend that it stand over till the estimates for next year are framed. It was decided to recommend that a provisional plumber’s license be granted to Mr H. Stairmand, who holds a certificate from Napiei, till the next Technical School examination- ■ ■ „
