CRICKET.

A match was played on the Basin Reserve yesterday between the Hairdressers and tne St. Patiick’a College teams. The former only managed to score 25 and the College toys succeeded in registering 197. Messrs Kirkcaldio and Stains Cricket Club commenced the season with a house match on the Basin Reserve yesterday. Teams were selected by the captain, Mr J. Dawson, and Mr Attwater, and after a very enjoyable and exciting game, the match resulted in a victory for the captain s side. Great interest was taken in this match, as several good all-rou T d cricketers have lately joined the club, and together with last season’s players the team will be th© strongest the house baa put in the field for y® a ”*. . A match between the Karori and Oriental Clubs was played at Karori yesterday, the latter winning by one run. The score* were ; ■—Karoris, 75; Orientals, 76. Gore (2<) ana Christian (17, not out) were the chief scorers for Karori, whilst Billman (40) and France (10) batted well for the Orientals. Christian took the whole ten wiokets for 29 runs, one man being run out, and’ dismissed the last four Oriental batsmen in four consecutive balls, Fulton, Trusoott and Billman divided the wickets taken by the Orientals. Tho wickets on the Basin Reserve for Saturday have been allotted as follows : No. 1, Representative Eleven v. 18 Juniors ; No. 2, Phoenix ; No. 3, Wellington ; No. 4, Rival, The competition for the Junior Asaociation’a Cnp will commence on Saturday, as originally arranged, and not on the following Saturday, as notified yesterday. - A special general meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association is called for Monday evening next, when the application of the Petone Club to be included Junior Championship will receive consideration.
