A FIRE EPIDEMIC.

By Telegraph.—Press Association, Auckland, October 20. The old Whatawbata Hotel was totally destroyed by fire last night. It was occupied by Mr McLsish as a boardinghouse. The building was insured for .£l5O, There have been four fires in Whatawhata within the last month. First, there waa a fire at Mrs Bruce’s, then Mr Dickey’s residence was destroyed. Lane’s new hotel was tho next to go. and last night the old hotel, also the- property of Mr Lane, was burned. As in the other cases no cause can be given for the fire, and its origin remains a mystery. There are rumours of incendiarism, but they may be unfounded.
