Dunedin, October 20. The City Council to-night passed a resolution instructing the Finance Committee to take into consideration the question of providing a residence for the Governor in Dunedin. Invercargill, October 20. Emily Hobbs, wife of a fanner, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court to-day with having burned a dwellinghouse at Balfour belonging to herhusband in April, 1893. The property was insured foi®.£l2o in the National office, and the amount was paid over. The chief witnesses fot the prosecution are Hobbs* family by his former wife, who stated that a considerable quantity of furniture was removed before the fire, which occurred in tho daytime, during the absence of the husband and family. The case is proceeding.
