Mr and Mrs G. F. Gee returned to Wellington yesterday by the lonic. The new Commissioner of Police, Mr Tunbridge, arrived In Wellington yesterday from London by the lonio, accompanied by his wife and daughter. Miss Laura Greenlaw, at present in Wellington, on a. visit from Sydney, is to be entertained by ber friends at a dance in the Masonic Hall nexo Friday. We regret to have to record the death of Mr Charles Saywell, who died in Nelson, aged 65 yours. Mr Saywell arrived in Wellington by the Martha Ridg way in 1840, and has been living in Richmond, Nelson, during tbo past 43 years. snd near. An exceedingly large number of wreaths was sent, and the coffin was literally hidden with beautiful flowers. There was a large gathering of members at the Wellington Bowing Club's boat-house last evening to say farewell to Mr Percy Grahame, who has been intimately associated with tbo club for some years past, and who is now under orders to report himself at the Torpedo Corps depot at Auckland, On behalf of the club, Mr W. Boss, the oantain, presented Mr Graham© with a handsome marble time-piece, suitably inscribed, and in an appropriate speech made eulogistic reference to tho many services the recipient had rendered the club on the water and in the boat-house, paying an tribute to his work and advice in commotion with tho construction and repairs of the Club’s plant. Mr Boss also expressed the olub’s appreciation of the assistance given by Mrs Graliame to the officers in conducting the recent art union, and added that the members of the club desired that the presentation should also be regarded as a token of appreciation of Mrs Grahame’s help and assistance. Mr J. Patterson (hon. treasurer) also spoke of the groat services Mr Grahame hod given to tho club in various capacities. Mr Gcahame made a feeling acknowledgment of the gift, in tho course of which he alluded, to the pood fellowship which had always boon extended to bim by tho officials and members of tbo club.
