Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following wool market cablegram from their London house, Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co , dated Utn October;—Best descriptions merino and fine to very fine crossbred show no change. Other descriptions market weaker. Faulty and inferior descriptions market is very irregular. 13,000 bales held over. Mr Matthew Henry’s report on the live stock ■ trade is as follows:—Tho market supplies on Thursday were entirely confined to cattle. These occupied a good many of tho sheep pens m addition to the cattle pons, and were composed of all classes and dualities. The attendance wasgoodbut buyers were hanging back. During tho day current values wore offered for most of tho stock, but vendors holding out for more money precluded any considerable volume of business. Subjoined are quotations: 3 to 31-year steers, £3 2s Glj 18-month steers and heifers, £1 13s; 18-month heifers, £l los to £1 12s ; woaners,small, S.s to Us; fat cows, £3 ss. Pigs— Weaners, 8s to 9s Gd. # ... Messrs A. G. Taino and Co.’s report for their Saturday’s sale is as follows Tho entry was a very largo one, composed of harness horses and hacks; no draughts forward. The attendance was large, and for all well-broken harness horses competition fairly brisk. Unbroken sorts were unsaleable. Wo offered a truck for Messrs Hocken Bros., and sold black gelding, £ls IDs; do. unbroken, £l3 ss; light chestnut filly, £3. Tho rest were hardly in saleable condition, and were passed in. For other vendors wa sold quite a number of harness horses and hacks at prices ranging from £lO to £1 IDs, and crocks at 23s to 50s. Messrs Lowes and lorns report as follows as to their spring cattle sale on Thursday:—The entries comprised over 800 bead of cattle, tho yards and sheep pens being brought into requisition to accommodate the lot. Some prime beef offered both in bullocks, cows and heifers, all these selling freely. In stores some particularly fine cattle came forward, especially one lino of 100 splendid forward bullocks, which were secured by Messrs Tully Bros. Of tho younger steers, tho class was somewhat varied. The bidding for the stores was rather dull, many lots being passed, but sold privately afterwards, and at the close of tho day upwards of GOO head had changed hands. We also bad a fair yarding of sheep, including some very prime fat ewes, these selling freely, as did any good store wethers, forward ewes, or strong hoggets. Pat bullocks made 100 s ; fat cows, 80s to 90s ; fat heifers, 55s to Gas; forward bullocks, £1 4s; store bullocks, 68s to 72s 6d ; 2J to 3-year steers, 55s to 655; 2-ycars, 47s C'i to 50s; 18-raonths, 40s; yearlings, 30a 5 calves, 25s to 15s; breeding cows and heifers, 33s to GOs; dairy cows and heifers, 50s to 90s ; prime fat ewes, 10a lOd ; forward wethers, 10s 3d to 10s 9d ; forward ewes, 7s to 8s ; stores, Gs 3d to Gs 9d; hoggets, best, 8s; others, Cs 9d to 5s Cd. Messrs F. R. Jackson and Co.’s Wanganui stock report is as follows:—The bidding for cattle at St. Hill street showed an improvement on that of last sale. We sold nearly all that came forward. Only a few sheep were penned, and they were sold at current rates. The entry for pigs was very small. Prices are w.thout quotable change.: -We quote:— Cattle—Three-year-old bullocks, £3 4s; two-year-old, £2 2s Gd ; yearlings, 24s 6d ; heifers, £2 5s to £2 10s ; milch cows, £3 17s 6d. Sheep-Hoggets, 7a Id, 7s 4d to 7a Gd. Pigs—Sows, 21s 6d ; weaners, 6s to 7a. Poultry—Fowls, Ss Gd to 4s Id the couple.
