FATAL RAILWAY ACCIDENT.

A man named Thomas, Butchart, 54 years of age, met with a fatal accident on Saturday. While -engaged in shunting at Otakia, he slipped and fell, a carriage passing over his leg, mangling it dreadfully. Ho was brought to town by the South express, but died in the Hospital this morning from the shock and loss of blood. Deceased was for many years stationmaster at Dunedin, and was transferred to Tapanui and Kelso, where be resigned from the service, going into business. .Latterly he has been • casually employed by the Railway Department at Dunedin. Deceased was the son-in-law ot Mr Thomas Brebner, one of the earliest settlers of Otago. He leaves a wife and four children.
