RAILWAY EXCURSIONS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, The new administration of the railways is beginning to make itself felt, to the advantage of the travelling public. Though they have done well in taking a leaf out of the Manawatu Railway Company’s bock in the matter of Saturday and Sunday cheap excursion fares to Upper Hutt, , they have not, in my opinion, gone quite far enough to make the new departure a success. The arrangements made are all right as far as they go, but in the running of the Saturday trains more is wanted. The excursion tickets, 2s 6d first and Is Od second return, are only available for two trains leaving Wellington on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday. But a family man who objects to utilise the Sabbath for an excursion is debarred from allowing his family the benefit df an outing as they cannot leave Wellington till 1.5 p.m. What is wanted is that'these tickets be available by an earlier train op Saturday as well. Then a man’s family could go into the country and he could follow in the afternoon when his wprk is done. As it is the Saturday trains can only be available for single men and the family man is com* polled to use the Sunday train dr none at all.—l am, &c„ i / Paterfamilias.
