AN EXTRAORDINARY WATERSPOUT, Invercargill, January 15. ■ A waterspout at Parawa, near Kingston, bored a great hole in the face of a mountain, carrying trees, rooks and clay in its train, and when it reached the flat country it spread out and covered a portion of Gibson’s farm with debris, also covered the railway lino and filled the creeks leading into the Mataura River. A rabbiter was caught in the tail of the storm and covered with rod clay. The sun was shining, brightly a few minutes before the occurrence. A WELL-DESERVED PUNISHMENT. Dunedin, January 15. At the Police Court Robert Wilson, a young man, charged with serious larrikinism at Morgan’s. Baths, Frederick street, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment. Accused, when intoxicated, seized a boy aged five and throw him into the water a depth of 4ft, and left him there. But for the timely assistance of some bystanders the boy would probably have been drowned. Joseph Kennedy and Andrew Kennedy, for obstructing Constable Hogan while he was arresting Wilson, were each sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. Chkistchuboh, January 15. At the Bible Christian District meeting to-day, the final draft of stations was agreed to as . follows : —Christchurch, A. Mitchell; Addington, B. H. Ginger ; Templeton, J. G. W. Ellis; Belfast, W. Grigg; Dunedin, W. Ready; Cromwell, T. Read ; Palmerston North, T. Quintrell; Waikari, J. Orchard; Hawea, E. Ryan; Banks Peninsula, 7 A. E. Stevens; Hay College, H. Beggs. • Gisboene, January 15.Captain Gibb, of the steamer Australia, states that the yacht Waitangi, hound for Wellington from Auckland, wished to be reported. The yacht was off Cable Foreland, a few miles north of Gisborne, on Sunday, and had had a heavy weather passage. Dunedin, January 15. A deputation of about 30 unemployed waited on the Mayor and complained of favouritism ip the selection of men engaged on the co-operative works, Otago Central Railway. The Mayor promised to communicate with the Premier, and - also to consult the City Council to see whether some postponed work could not be put in hand. Auckland, January 15. Katherine Rogers, dressmaker, was fined 30s and costs, 412 13s, for breaches of the Factories Act; • Several other informations were withdrawn. Mr Hone Heke, M.H.R., addressed the Arawas at the offices of the National Association, before they left for Rotorua, on the work of the past session, . and received a vote of thanks.
