A LARGE DEFICIT. REDUCTION OP SALAEIES. By Telegraph,—Press Association. — Copyright. Received August 2, 0.45 a.m. Brisbane, August 1. The Budget was delivered by the Treasurer this evening. The revenue for the year is £32,000 below the estimate, while the expenditure lias exceeded the revenue by £BOOO. The total deficit is £1,575,000. The value of exports show an increase of £346,000 as compared with the previous year, and the imports a decrease of £665,000. The Statement speaks hopefully of the meat industry, and it is expected that the output next year will b© doubled. The Treasurer proposes to ask the Civil servants to accept reduction in salaries for one year, and considers it unlikely that the reduction will be required after that period. The prospects of the colony are so satisfactory that the Government hope to proceed with the railway extension.
