CABLE BREVITIES.
The Queensland Legislative Assembly unanimously carried a motion affirming that the time has arrived to pass legislation preventing labour strikes. The Premier supported the proposal. The directors of the City of Melbourne Bank have resigned, owing to dismissal of Mr Rouse, the manager. The death of Cardinal Ledoohowski is 'denied. It is stated that the press has been misled. The new Board of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company has decided to oppose Mr Stewart’s motion to compel them to provide funds wherewith to prosecute the old directors.
The Labour Party in the South Australian Legislative Assembly disapproved the action' of the Government in withholding long - service increases of pay from the police, recommitted the Salaries Bill with the aid of the Opposition, and defeated the Government by 25 te 23 upon the insertion of a clause guaranteeing the increases. The Spanish troops at Mindanao, in the Philippine Islanda.'routed the Malays with a loss of 250 killed. Sir Edward Grey, Under-Secretary to the Foreign Office, in reply to a question in the House of Commons, assured members that they were now within measurable distance of a settlement of the claims to the Pamir Plateau that would satisfy Great Britain. Mrs Anderson, who shot the man Fraser, in Victoria, has been committed for trial.
