ALARMING BOLT IN DUNEDIN.
SEVERAL PERSONS SERIOUSLY INJURED. (press association.) Dunedin, November 8. About 9.30 last night a bolt, attended with serious consequences, took place. Two horses attached to a cab bolted from the cab rank near Stafford street, where they were standing with their nosebags on, and tore down Princes street and up the cutting at a terrible paoe, narrowly escaping colliding with several vehicles at the Octagon. They- swerved towards the Town Hall and came into collision with a lamp post and then got on to the pavement, which was crowded with people. An alarming scene followed. The people rushed in all directions to get out of the way of the horses, and a number were knocked down by the plunging animals, which, after smashing the windows of a jeweller’s shop, were brought to a’ standstill by another lamp post, the two horses having gone on different sides of it. The cab was smashed up and underneath it were found three or four persons who were the last knocked down. Altogether it was found that nine or ten persona had been injured. The moat seriously hurt are probably Mrs Hamilton, injury to lower part of the spine ; Thomas Robertson (Peninsula), George Hayworth and Emily McGregor, scalp wounds and cuts ; James Allan, fractures to left ahonldetblado and dislocation of lower part of it. It is not anticipated at present that fatal results will ensue in any ease. The cab was in charge of a young man named Barding, who doss not appear to be to blame. Fortunately the usual Saturday night crowd had somewhat thinned, or lbs results would bave been more serious.
