THE NATIVE OBSTRUCTION AT OKOROIRE.
ARREST OF THE OFFENDERS,
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, June 15.
Inspector Emerson has returned to Hamil. ton from Okoroire with the Natives accused of obstructing ploughing on the Thames Valley Land Company’s estate. He arrived on the disputed ground on Saturday, aud met a number of Maoris, who, seeing the strong force of police, did not resist, but allowed the police to arrest Mibiuui and his wife. The Natives were much astonished at the prompt measures taken for their arrest, thinking they would not be interfered with. Inspector Emerson made short work of the affair, leaving Hamilton at 3 p.m. on Friday and returning on Satnraay evening with his prisoners, having travelled continuously from 4 o'clock on Saturday morning until 7.30 p.m. No further obstruction to the work is expected. Mibinui and his wife were brought up at Hamilton Court to-day, and acknowledged destroying the bridges, but claimed the laud. The ease was remanded to Friday for the Resident Magistrate to bear.
