THE GISBORNE HARBOUR BOARD FRAUDS.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Gisborne, June 10. The Borough auditor reported to the Council last night that tbe amount of the late secretary’s defalcations traceable amounted to £277 7s lid, and that a further sum of £33 6s 9d was marked off in the rate book, but no traces of these latter items could be found in the cash book. Mr P. if. Bonrke, brother of the late secretary, wrote to the Council staling that after inquiry at the Borough office, finding that the actual deficiency was £277 7s lid, against which security was held by means of a bond of £250, he enclosed a cheque for £277 7s I Id in payment of the deficiency and in oancellat:on of the bond. Tbe Council agreed to accept tbe cheque and cancel the bond. The original bond bad been two sureties of £250 each, but one of the bondsmen has since died.
