THE SCHOOL COMMITTEES ELECTION ACT.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Cnßisrcmißcu, June 10. The Board of Education to-day adopted the report on “The School Committees Elcotiooa Act.” It suggests that a householder should mean and include every adult male or female person who (being owner, lessee or tenant) resides In any dwelllnghouse within tbs school district, and a parent, a guardian, or other person resident in the district who has actual custody of any child attending any State school situated within suoh distriot. The abolition of the cumulative vote is stated to be an almost unmixed benefit. The report suggests that the election of school committees should be conducted on a similar plan to the election of Road Boards. School masters should not attest the voting papers. A defect in the Act is a want of means of certifying that the candidate, or person nominating him, is a householder of the district. It is suggested that the committee should consist of not less than five nor mare than nine members, a majority to retire alternately at the end of each year.
