SALE OF SYLVIA PARK STUD.

(PEB PBES3 ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, January 5. The celebrated Sylvia Park wan sold by auction to-day. Tbere was a largo atten- - dance, including buyers from all parts of jj the colonies. The bidding was spirited jj throughout. The total sum realised was J 22,475 guineas. The stallions were sold first, 1 and when Nordenfeldt was led into the ring there was a round of applause, the horse , looked a picture. His coat, glossy in the c sunshine of the beautiful summer’s morning, as ho paraded the ring. The bidding for him started at four thousand guineas, an offer made on behalf of Mr J. B. Hoggen, of t California, the owner of Sir Modred. Mr , Crozier, of South Australia, advanced 100 guineas, and the figures quickly ran up in one hundred guinea bids until Mr Crozier 1 retired, at five thousand five hundred guineas, and Mr Day, representing Mr S. Hordern, who is forming a stud farm in Now South "Wales, secured the horse at live thousand six hundred guineas. An Auckland syndicate wished to purchase - Nordenfeldt, but it is believed they retired from the bidding at 4500 guineas. After a little brisk competition Mr L. D. Nathan, of Whitford Park, purchased St. Leger for 400 guineas. Mr Morrin, pro. prietor of the Wellington Park etnd, secured Hotchkiss, a fine looking horse by Musket from Potroleuae, for 350 guineas, and there was applause when he also bought the brood mares Sylvia, dam of MartiniHenri, Onyx, dam of Nordenfeldt. The brood mare for which there was the greatest competition was Mersey, dam of Carbine. One thousand guineas was the first bid called, and Messrs W. R. Wilson, Day, O’Brien, and others carried on the bidding rapidly. There was a round of applause when Mr O’Brien called, 11 two thousand,” Mr Wilson immediately replying with 2100, and at length Mr Wilson became the purchaser at 2300 guineas. Mr Wilson also bought Martlnl-Henri’a sister, Woodnymph, after an interesting competition with Major George. For Florence Macarthy, dam of Tirailleur, bidding started at 50 guineas, and went on till Mr Gollan was declared the purchaser at 400 guineas. Mr Monin secured a great bargain iu Steppe, which he bought for 200 guineas. There was spirited competion for yearlinge. The highest priced was a colt by • Nordenfeldt —Nellie Moore, a well-shaped and powerful-looking youngster, which became the property of Mr Gollan, at 1050 guineas. Another colt by Nordenfeldt— Florence McCarthy, closely related to Tirailleur, was the centre of brisk bidding, and was also purchased by Mr Gullan, for 950 fuineas. All the lots quitted to Mr T. T. lay were bought on behalf of Mr Horderu, Mr J. P. Philson conducted the sale. The fallowing are the various lots : Fusillade, by Musket—Wai-iti, was started at 100 guineas, and was knocked down at 175 guineas to Mr W. Rathbono, of Hawkes Bay. Nordenfeldt, by Musket—Onyx, caused a great amount of excitement. There woro only three bidders. Dr Rosa started him at 4000 guineas, and the bidding went rapidly to 5000 guineas. Mr Crozier retired at 5500 guineas, and the horse was knocked down at 5600 guineas to Mr T. T, Day, of Sydney, St. Leger, by Doncaster—Atlantis, was sold for 400 guineas to Mr L. D. Nathan; Hotchkiss, by Musket—Petroleuae, was sold for 355 guineas to Mr T. Morrin. After the sale of stallions the brood mares ware sold. Amohio brought 30 guineas, Mr Walker being the purchaser; Atalanta, G2 guineas, sold to Mr Goodson ; Atalantis, 40 guineas, to Mr Watson, of Taranaki; Bianca, 300 guineas, to Mr T. Morrin; Crinoline, 150 guineas, to Mr O’Brien ; Erycina, 230 guineas, and Flcnrette, 120 guineas, to Mr J, Marshall ; Florence McCarthy, dam of Tirailleur, 400 guineas, Mr Gollan ; Formo, 220 guineas, Mr Morrin ; Fusee, 100 guineas, Dr Ross ; Hannah, 7 guineas, Mr Duder; Hippona, 100 guineas, Mr J.
